Going from a flip phone to a smartphone...

For the past few years I have had an LG flip phone with a Smart Talk (Wal Mart) monthly plan. It has served me well for a &36;12 phone and &36;30/month. The reason that I may be in the market for a smartphone is that I'm tired of texting on a tiny keyboard (where to type the letter S you need to press the number 7 key four times...) and there are some apps that I would like to use for traveling as well. I have never been the kind of person (obviously) who just has to have the latest tech, so I really see myself hanging onto this new phone for years. Here is my first question-- I've used a Windows laptop for years and promised myself that the next one will be either an Apple laptop or an iPad. This is probably a year or so from happening, but should I get an iPhone instead of an android phone? My second question is, if I stay with an android phone, I will probably consider the Straight Talk prepaid service first because I've been pleased with it. I don't need lots of data, and for &36;55 a month I can get 10GB at high speed then it goes down to 2GB (unlimited) for the rest of the month. I want to stream music via bluetooth through my car's speakers because I really don't like any of the Sirius stations available-- would the 2GB slow it down too much (constantly rebuffering)? We live in an area where AT& is the only reliable service (my LG phone uses AT& towers), so I suppose that I should also consider going to an AT& store to see what is available, but I've never had anything other than prepaid service so am uncertain what I can get there.
Any suggestions would be helpful. I would really like to go through with this and finally make the step to a smartphone
