Green flashing screen problem for Samsung Galaxy S5

This situation usually occurs to me when I wake up after not having used by phone for eight or so hours. I try to turn it on and view my notifications by pressing the power or home button and my screen quickly shows a green version of my home screen and then turns black. I know it is still on at this point because pressing the power button does not flash the screen green again. My homemade solution to fix this is taking out the battery then turning it on, however?
I didn't find the right solution from the internet.
