This capability meant that they could eventually provide direct service from as far as Preston and Wrexham.

The twin-powered train will initially begin service to a planned new station on Headbolt Road in Kirkby.

Liverpool City (LCR) Mayor Steve Rotheram said he plans to expand the network. "To reach various communities throughout our region, our city and beyond."

Tests over four weeks of the trial showed that the battery-powered train could travel up to 20 miles on a single charge.
